The purpose of this study was to observe in healthy human volunteers the effect of a small dose of glycopyrrolate given intravenously, and to compare its effect with that of atropine. The results are as follows: 1) The usual dose of glycopyrrolate(0.2mg) showed no detectable change in the heart rate. 2) A small dose of glycopyrrolate(0.1mg) showed a decreasing tendency in the heart rate, but it was not a statistically significant decrease. 3) A small dose of glycopyrrolate(0.15mg) showed a significant decrease in the heart rate. 4) A small dose of glycopyrrolate(0.1mg) 10 minutes after glycopyrrolate(0.1mg) showed a significant increase in the heart rate. 5) A small dose of glycopyrrolate(0.15mg) 10 minutes after glycopyrrolate(0.1mg)did not cause a decrease in the heart rate. 6) A small dose of glycopyrrolate(0.1mg) 10 minutes after glycopyrrolate(0.15mg) showed a marked increase in the heart rate. 7) From the above results, it is infered that both glycopyrrolate and atropine have an effect on the sympathetic ganglia.
